As an internet marketer I am interested in keeping up with
new ideas and trends in internet marketing. Since I have
been on the internet for a long time doing things like
creating my own internet city, website promotion, making
money on the internet, I have seen the internet change by
leaps and bounds.

Today, in order to be relevant in internet marketing your
website or blog has to do more than just be a static webpage,
now you have to have content and different methods to share
that content such as having your own blog, perhaps forums,
and now the biggie, video. With increasing access to broadband,
video is now possible for virtually everyone to use. Video has

become the new must have have, not only for internet marketers
but for everyone who has a website.

Local Biz Owners who have a website can especially benefit from

video. With video, there are new opportunities to get out your

message, advertise your business, make video postcards, send
video e-mails create how-to  the ideas are endless.

We website owners however, are thinking gee we want to get in
on the video thing, but it is something else we have to learn
how to do, another learning curve, and for many of us the idea
just sort of fizzles.

I am excited because I don’t have to miss out this time, because
I lack the expertise to create and broadcast videos or perhaps
I just don’t have the time.

I found a unique new software I thought I would check out, to
see if I could use it. I was hoping it would be easy to use,
to create video and then put it on my website. I also wanted
the video to look good, something I wouldn’t mind people watching

and/or downloading to pass it around.

Well I couldn’t believe it. This software made it drop dead easy
to make videos and to put them on my website. I actually was able
to make a quality, professional looking video in less than 5 min.
This sounds crazy I know, but I did it.

If video is something you have been wanting to do but felt really

intimidated by it up to this point, you might want to try this software

for yourself, because the best part is you can use the software and

it doesn’t cost you anything. That was important to me because I

didn’t know if I would be able to use the software, and I didn’t want to

pay for something I wasn’t sure I could even use.

Dear facebook or Is Content Necessary?

Dear Facebook!

"By the way Facebook, I am using this image in the spirit of your recent new agreement offer"

As an artist, who wants to share in the community and interact with friends and fellow artist I find it completely offensive that Facebook wants to have, "irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense)" full agreement  rights to my content. If you want to foster a community and have take care of your customers and content providers you need to listen to them and not take advantage of them. Customer service should be your number one concern.

We are the ones who are providing the content here Facebook.

You are responsible for providing the platform. Understand the relationship and respect and give value to us and we will continue to work with you. Piss us off and take advantage of us with user agreements like this and we will go somewhere else and deal with another provider who respects us. This is a very fickle group of people. You may be the market leader today, but we provide the content and if we do not feel value we can and will go elsewhere.

I repeat again so you get the point!

We are the ones who are providing the content here Facebook.

I have seen your random automated system of establishing who has accounts that are doing something “shady” and automatically shutting them down. Between this and the new user agreement you seem the think that you can and will do as you please and people will stick with you. News Flash!!! You are not a monopoly, you are not the only game in town, you do not have the best service in town and finally you seem not to care about your content providers. Now where I come from that is bad customer service and that means bad business.

So what are you going to do about it facebook??

Customer service and respecting the content providers or fuck all of us and content be damned?

The Customer and content Provider!!

Getting the mix right.

mixing your lifeSome times in life it is not about being the rock star, it's about what is good for the mix.

When I find a new project and finally find the objective or main idea I tend to get pretty driven. I will work on it and keep going till I am exhausted and hungry. So I have taken to putting a note up for myself and setting an alarm every few hours so that I take the break and can stay fresh and focused. Nothing worse then working late into the night on something and waking the up the next morning to find it is all nonsensical junk.

Most people are putting something in there blog at least once telling us to take time and smell the flower or go for a walk, etc etc. I think the point of this is remember that all we really have is now. Do not make now something you will regret in the future. Prepare for the long hall but live life like this is the last moment you have.

Balance, grasshopper!

Remember that the noise is in everything and let it out sometimes. Stay creative!!

ciao,
reverendo

ps, working on the new site and will post some news as soon as it is ready.

your creative space? What does your creative space look like?
Does this look like your creative space? Do you have a space where you go to create that inspires you or do you sit down at a desk or anywhere and start the creative process. I have begun to notice that to be creative even if it means brainstorming a new idea I am working on I need a space that is creatively inspiring. A clean space with some images or thoughts posted that get me in the creatively inspired mood.

Go take a look at where you create most of the time and ask your self does this place inspire me? (Do it now. Stop reading this and do it. I will be here when you get back.) Okay so what are the results. Are you inspired by this space?

A few ideas to get your space into a creatively inspiring feeling;
  1. Clean the space up
  2. Clear out all the clutter and stacks of papers.
  3. Put up at one say, phrase or image that gets you into the creative mind set
  4. Change the lighting in the space to something that is not to hard on your eyes though enough light to read and write.
  5. Often times if I am working on writing or a new idea I find that non-distracting instrumental music can help as well. ie jazz or Brain Eno.
  6. Make sure this is a space you can get some privacy.
  7. Can you block out external distraction. ie no telephone calls, TVs
  8. Add some color to the space. Hang some thing up or can you paint something.
  9. Go for a walk or clear your head with a short pause or meditation to get all the distracting thoughts out of your head.
  10. Before you go to this space remember a time when you where extremely creative and all that feeling to fill you up.
Your creative space is not only the physical space you use to create, it also includes the space between your two ears.

You have to get your mind and soul ready to create. Creating a space in yourself that is open, resourceful and ready for new ideas is as important to having a place that allows you to come into creative ideas. Can you set a time apart for your self during the day to allow for all the day to day clutter in your mind to be cleaned out so that you are mentally and emotionally ready for those new creative inspirations?

Once you have gone through this list of things and cleared your space out try this space again when it is time to be creative and see what happens.
Do you have any other ideas or things you do to get yourself into a creative space and start the process? Leave a comment and share.

Thanks
James The "Creative Nomad"

For those who want to expand your mind

This entry find me in northern Germany with family though I am working on ways to build an income online so I can be at home for the family and still be able to be creative. Along that line and in keeping with the last post about explaining experimental music to you all I though i would give you a chance to hear some if it here and help make a humble blogger some money to support himself. I know this is shameless promotion from a new guy on the block in this genre of blogging but let's give it a try.

Remember that learning and growing are something we do everyday. So I submit that experimenting needs to be a big part of that. We never know what will work on our lives unless we experiment. So give it a try and see what works. Stay open to the experiment.

Is there anything you tried as an experiment that really helped you grow and learn? Leave a comment and share your insight.

Thanks!

jack of all trades expanded upon

Starting to write this journal I have mentioned that I have been a creative nomad. Over the last ten years or so I have been recording and performing experimental music and performance art works. So in keeping with that I thought I would post a short article I wrote this afternoon for the Artist Launch Site. They have an online radio station and are working through there wiki site to share a wide range of music with people. I found some interesting music to listen to as I wrote.

Experimental Music

A brief introduction to experimental music and an attempt to offer an “in” for the un-initiated.

Have you ever heard of Merzbow, Masonna, Sudden Infant, Justice Yeldham and the Dynamic Ribbon Device, The Nihilist Spasm Band or Zbigniew Karkowski? Know what field recording is? Heard a song composed, using  only field recordings? If your answer is no to most of these questions, this article is for you. There’s a wide variety of genres that fit into the experimental music/noise scene. i.e. noise, noise core, free improv, musique concrete, atonal music, drone music and on and on. Okay so let’s find an in here. I imagine you are at least familiar with the name John Cage. To be overly simplistic here, generally speaking, experimental music involves the use of unusual sound sources, non-typical use of traditional instruments and self made “stuff” to create audio works that do not follow the traditional structure or song form. Some things can be very abrasive whilst others can be very soothing and pleasing to the ear.

It would be impossible to say I could give you any kind of overview of the experimental music scene and all the genres there in without leaving something out. A question that you might ask yourself to know if you might be interested in exploring some of these genres. Have you ever been listening to the intro of a song and gotten annoyed or wondered why the intro did not continue instead of going into a traditional song form? If you are been curious then this might be something to check out.

If you are feeling adventurous there is a great site created by a San Francisco based sound artist hertz lion resource. You can also subscribe to his mailing list and receive a great posting choked full of info and a bi-monthly  update of concerts, of the experimental variety, going on all over the world.

Otherwise I would start with myspace and search some of the artist listed above and you might find something you like. For the more harsh stuff try merzbow or if you are wanting something a bit more pleasing to the ear try out hans fjellestad (listen to ex vivo).

That does it for now. Hopefully that gives you a place to start and you might find something you like.

Is there a sound you hear that makes you happy? What sound makes you want to crawl out of your skin?

Ciao
Reverendo

Asking better questions??

We as Americans have a new president today and that is a good thing. I personally spent a large part of the Bush administration outside of the US because I was not happy with the way things where going as a creative person/artist. The one thing I noticed today was it seems we as a country and the administration itself are starting to ask better questions. More open ended resourceful questions. Instead of who is to blame for this changing it to what can we learn from this. What can we do to improve our situation? Then taking action is the next step. Action is to come as we begin the first one hundred days of the new administration.

This is an important step for a country to make and more importantly for us as individual to ask ourselves better questions, Rather than asking ourselves why this is happening to me, ask what can I learn from this. What can I do now to improve this situation? Then taking action is the next thing. Do something right now and start doing a little bit each day to change, grow and heal ourselves. Small steps are easy to do and in the end they are cummulative. The small steps add up and in no time at all you have a significant change in your life.

This is something that is
important. I have been returning to this often as i am diving back into creating work and re-entering the system. I have been using this idea to brainstorm other income avenues and then taking action. Small steps just like a child learning to walk.

As we wake up in the morning start with resourceful questions that lead to taking positive action towards our do something. Make one call or write an email. Something simple.

Our minds find the answers to the questions that we ask, so if we start the day with a resourceful question then there are no limits to what is possible over time.

What is your question you ask yourself to get to a resourceful place?

Leave a comment and let me know.

Reverendo.

Trusting the Process

Trusting the Process

There is a great quote by Goethe*. “the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”

This is a quote that was introduced to me some 19 years ago and it has always been something that has stayed with me. Even though lately I feel I have lost my connection to it. I am happy for the chance to rediscover it again and start living it fully. I have been allowing myself not to make decisions fully because of other obligations, which I made up, needed to be more important. I began to cede my decision making to another and to the collective. This has led me off the path and I realize now that I need to return to this idea. Step into my decisions fully and trust the process because the universe does provide.
I have worried about being able to fulfill my financial obligations and pay the bills and I lost sight of the fact that I was holding on too tight to the fear. Trust the process, be bold and follow through. Then be open to taking advantage of the opportunities that the universe provides. Things may not turn out the way I initially envisioned them though if I am flexible and persivere then I will get there.

Another great quote by the wonderful blog of Derek Sivers which is taken from the wikipedia page about Dokkodo “Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world.”

* I have heard that the quote that is attributed to Goethe here is also said to be from someone else. I have always know it to be from him and that is how it was introduced to me. Correct me if I am wrong.
